Seville
February 28, 2026
I brought my e-ink tablet to journal about this trip but sadly, my pen broke this morning. My plan each day was to simply keep a list of things I remembered about the location we just saw. Since I don't have a way to keep track of it on my tablet, I guess whoever is reading this will have to be subjected to all of it instead. So, here we go.
- Plaza- set of Star Wars Episode Two. Filled with horses+carriages waiting to be rented. Brown/red brick. Enormous. Workers were cleaning the bricks and paving, making me glad I only have a couple tiled bathroom floors to clean at home. We visited early enough in the morning that there weren't many people there.
- Alcazar Palace. Still functions as the king and queen's residence when they visit Seville. Crowded. Too many selfie sticks. Bought the prettiest Moorish tile ring as a souvenir.
- Walking tour to the Cathedral de Seville. Buttresses! The largest cathedral in the world- I doubted this fact until I saw the interior. Notre Dame seemed bigger from the outside to me. I was convinced when I saw the inside. 5 aisles. Just massive. Some of the windows were casting beautiful colored light on the floor. The whole compound went on forever.
- Spent the afternoon with the Bruss family. Paul had raw oysters for lunch for some reason. I had Iberian steak (when in Rome, er, the Iberian Peninsula). Tried tinto de verano which sounds like what happens when a college student tries to make sangria but it was so good.
- We found an antique store which put all "antique stores" in the States to shame. Things were old. So old. One image of Christ was 8,000 Euro. We made sure not to touch anything 🙃
- I found a camera store. I sadly didn't buy anything.
- We decided to walk the 2.5 miles back to our hotel which was a great way to see some more of the city. All in all we walked about 8 miles that day. Do my feet hurt? No. Ask Paul for his Ted Talk on barefoot shoes to learn more.
- None of the hotel bartenders knew how to make a martini, to Paul's disappointment.
